Todd and Casey McLeod have been the owners of Medical Center Pharmacy since 2003 and Casey has worked at Medical Center Pharmacy since 1995. Todd and Casey have three children. Todd graduated from Harding University in 1999 with a Bachelors of Business Administration. He handles business management and daily operations at the pharmacy. Casey graduated from UAMS with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2001. She has extensive education in diabetes and diabetes care.

ADA: Diabetes and Cardiology Groups Stay Firm on Rosiglitazone
Amid controversy over the cardiovascular risks of rosiglitazone (Avandia), the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and American Heart Association are reinforcing their current positions.

Both groups said that patients should be informed of the new data coming out about the drug, but noted that they should not panic. “We encourage patients to not stop taking their medication until they discuss it with their provider‚” said Dr. David M. Kendall‚ the ADA’s chief scientific and medical officer. “But they should know about all the information that’s out there. ”A Food and Drug Administration advisory committee meeting is scheduled for mid–July to hear evidence on rosiglitazone‚ and it may consider the possibility of pulling rosiglitazone from the market. At the ADA meeting in Orlando‚ one post–hoc analysis of the BARI 2D trial found a significant‚ 29 percent reduced composite relative risk of death‚ myocardial infarction‚ and stroke with use of rosiglitazone compared with no use of any thiazolidinedione. On that same day‚ however‚ a 56-trial meta–analysis in the Archives of Internal Medicine had shown a 28 percent to 39 percent higher risk of myocardial infarction with rosiglitazone.

Progress Made on Artificial Pancreas for [Patients With Diabetes]
Scientists are making advancements on an artificial pancreas for children and adults with type 1 diabetes‚ and they announced new technology at the 70th Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association this past weekend.

There are three components to the artificial pancreas: a continuous glucose monitor‚ an insulin pump‚ and a computer program that can help the two devices communicate to automate the process. The monitor and pump are already available‚ as illustrated in a study published by The Lancet‚ and can help control blood glucose levels during sleep to reduce the chance of hypoglycemia in children with type 1 diabetes. The latest presentation explained that the system provided similar benefits for 12 adults‚ ages 18 to 65 years‚ who ate a large meal and drank a glass of white wine before bed. With this technology‚ participants were within their target blood glucose range 70 percent of the time‚ compared to only 47 percent when they did not use the technology.
