Gustav Soaking, Cutting Power Across Arkansas

Sep 03, 2008

Drenching rains and windy conditions in the forecast again today for much of Arkansas and much of the state remains in a flash flood watch or warning as the remnants of Hurricane Gustav slowly work their way through our region. Rain amounts of 3-6 inches are expected over the next day or so and parts of western Arkansas could see as much as 10 inches of rain before the storm is over.

The National Weather Service says rain amounts could be even heavier than expected since we are experiencing a tropical rain, which is more-dense than a normal rain fall. At least 3 times more rain per cubic foot is produced in a tropical storm than in a normal thunderstorm.

Entergy Arkansas reported early this morning over 90,000 power outages have been documented across the state: At least 27,000 customers are in the dark in Hot Springs and as many as 26,000 customers were without power in Little Rock.
