Going Green on Earth Day
Apr 29, 2008To celebrate Earth Day Southwest Middle School initiated a recycling program and distributed trees. The Forestry Service donated over 1,200 trees, which were distributed to students and faculty in the Searcy district. The Searcy Recycling Center provided recycling bins for every teacher on the SWMS campus.
After starting the recycling program, fifth grade teacher Jeff Graham had students calculate an average number of pounds of paper the campus could recycle on a weekly and yearly basis. If the entire campus participates for a whole school year, the campus will (average) recycle over 28,000 pounds of paper throughout a school year.
