Continuing Education Courses Offered to the Public

Sep 26, 2008

Autumn has arrived: 'tis the season for football, apple cider and continuing education. Harding University's College of Lifelong Learning sponsors non-traditional courses for students of any age. Intended to continue the education of those no longer in school, these classes are geared towards anyone in the community with an interest in topics not usually taught in a classroom, ranging from basic computer skills to crocheting and drawing.

To further professional development, Dale Warren will teach introduction to personal computers on Monday evenings from 6-9 p.m. beginning Oct. 6. The course, taught at Harding Academy, will feature instruction in Windows, control panel, and using Internet Explorer and email. On Tuesday evenings beginning Oct. 7, Warren will teach a slightly more advanced course on Windows Vista, software licensing, and troubleshooting for those who are already proficient with a keyboard and mouse. Both courses cost $99.

Other professional courses offered this fall include introduction to Microsoft Excel, financial strategies for successful investors and regaining control of personal finances.

In the arena of personal development, a new class will be offered every Thursday evening for five weeks beginning Oct. 9. Stephanie Garner, florist and owner of Petals-N-More, will teach flower arranging and home decorating using silks.

Continuing education will offer additional personal development classes on quilting, digital photography, cake decorating, dog training and many other topics. Most classes begin in early Oct. and last for four weeks, costing approximately $70 per course.

Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, and students can register with the College of Lifelong Learning by mail, by phone, or in person in the American Studies Office on the second floor of the Heritage Center on campus.

The College of Lifelong Learning also offers online courses each month. Each class lasts for six weeks and begins on Wednesdays. Course offerings include law, marketing, languages, test prep, graphic design and dozens of other subjects.

For more information or to sign up for continuing education courses, potential students can visit the website at http://www.harding.edu/fun/classes.html or call 279-4497.
