Chesapeake Makes Case for CNG
Oct 15, 2008You’ve probably seen the commercials with Chesapeake CEO Aubrey McClendon touting compressed natural gas as a clean, affordable alternative fuel source. It’s easy to see why McClendon feels that way; not only would CNG be good for Chesapeake’s bottom line, it would cut down on vehicle emissions and provide much needed relief for rising gasoline prices.
Mark Raines from Chesapeake makes a compelling case for CNG, noting in Oklahoma City it’s currently selling for $1.14 a gallon. Raines says if every car, truck and motorcycle in the United States went CNG today, there would be a 100 year supply of natural gas for transportation fuel.
The call for alternative fuel has yet to penetrate the ears of most oil companies and car manufactures. The availability of CNG at fueling stations is spotty at best and Honda is the only manufacturer currently producing a CNG powered vehicle.
