Harding Women's Basketball defeats Tuskegee, 70-56

The Harding women's basketball team defeated Tuskegee 70-56 Sunday afternoon in the final round of the West Florida Tip-Off Classic in Pensacola, Fla. The Lady Bisons improve to 2-0 on the season.

Harding jumped out to a quick eight point lead to start the game and never looked back. The Lady Bisons went on an 18-2 run in five minutes of play to go up 33-14.  The Lady Bisons got their largest lead of the half when Kallie Bartee hit a jumper with 50 seconds left to go up by 23. Harding took a 45-22 lead into the locker room.

Harding continued to build on their lead in the second half until a Tuskegee 11-0 run with 10 minutes remaining pulled them within nine points of the Lady Bisons. Harding answered back on a Catherine McMenamy three-pointer to extend their lead by 12. A jumper and a layup pulled Tuskegee within eight with five minutes remaining. Sophomore guard Makala McNair hit a three-pointer and jumper to extend the Lady Bisons lead and seal the win for the Lady Bisons.

Junior forward Stacey Owens led the Lady Bisons with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Owens was selected as the Tournament's Most Valuable Player and to the All-tournament Team. Senior forward Ashley Anderson added 11 points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Lady Bisons. Anderson was also selected to the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore guard Kallie Bartee also added 13 points for Harding.

Alice Holmes led all scoring with 23 points and Rishaundra Gartrell grabbed 19 rebounds for Tuskegee.

The Lady Bisons are back in action Nov. 22nd as they head to Huntsville, Ala., to take on Alabama-Huntsville at 7 p.m.
