State Lottery Officially Introduced

The state lottery proposal was officially introduced in the Capitol yesterday. Incoming House Speaker Robbie Wills pre filed House Bill 1002 yesterday afternoon, marking the first step and high priority status for the lottery in the Capitol.

The bill filed yesterday was just one page, no specifics, but Wills told reporters it demonstrates the lottery will be the top legislative priority in the New Year. Lt. Governor Bill Halter says if all goes smoothly, lottery tickets will be on sale by the end of 2009, with actual scholarship money for Arkansas college students to follow shortly thereafter.
