Equipment Failure Caused Helicopter Crash
Nov 18, 2008Equipment failure, not pilot error, is believed to be the cause of Sunday’s helicopter crash that killed Game and Fish Officer Monty Carmikle near Quitman. No official report has been given on the cause of the crash but preliminary investigations do not show the chopper had any contact with trees or power lines in the area.
Funeral services for Carmikle are scheduled for Wednesday in Heber Springs. Carmikle was killed while on a routine flight looking for deer poachers early Sunday morning. The Game and Fish Commission is reminding hunters in the wake of the accident, not to hunt or spot deer at night.
