WCMC Auxiliary Service Celebrated at Meeting
Apr 18, 2012
Dedicated, service-oriented and compassionate are just a few words to describe the White County Medical Center Auxiliary members. The volunteer’s service to the hospital was celebrated at the recent Auxiliary monthly meeting leading up to National Volunteer Appreciation Week, which is April 16-20.

WCMC Director of Volunteer Services Jamie Laughlin planned a special meeting for the volunteers to show them how much they are loved and appreciated. The theme for the meeting was “WCMC Loves You a Latte,” during which the volunteers were treated to specially-made cupcake cinnamon rolls and a coffee bar, followed by entertaining games and prizes.

“Our hospital is so blessed to have such a strong group of volunteers who have a heart for service and love for everyone here,” Laughlin said. “Patients and associates alike benefit from the work the volunteers provide to our hospital. They work in a variety of departments throughout the hospital including Admissions, Information Desk, Carousel Gift Shops, Materials Management, Guest Services, Medical Records and the Chaplain Department. Our hospital is able to operate even more smoothly and efficiently thanks to our volunteers!”

The mission of the Auxiliary is to support White County Medical Center not only through service but also by raising money to purchase equipment and provide funds for buildings and healthcare items that help the hospital best meet the needs of patients. The Auxiliary’s primary means of raising money to donate to the White County Medical Foundation is through managing the Carousel Gift Shoppes on the WCMC North and South Campuses.

Auxiliary members provide non-clinical support in various areas throughout the hospital. Last year alone, volunteers contributed nearly 30,000 hours of service to the hospital. The WCMC Auxiliary has made numerous contributions to the hospital. Most recently, the Auxiliary donated $150,000 to the Cancer Center of Excellence and $50,000 for the robotic da VinciTM Surgical System.

Each year, the Auxiliary also funds 15 scholarships for students who are entering healthcare-related fields of study. According to Auxiliary President Kathy Gammill, the Auxiliary is working toward creating an endowment to ensure that the scholarships will be available for years to come.
