SEARCY, Ark. –The city of Searcy has a new place to dine; 3 Rivers Catfish and Cafe. The restaurant, which moved from Kensett to Searcy, opened the doors to their new location on Race Street on September 12, 2018.
The restaurant was established in November of 2016 by co-owners Sissy White and her son, Aaron Holmes. They started by purchasing Georgetown One Stop, a popular fish restaurant outside of Kensett.
“We bought them out and use some of their recipes so that’s mostly how we’re known,” said White. “We’ve put our own twist on it, but we still get a lot of customers at 3 Rivers that loved their fish.”
White and Holmes felt limited in what they could do for their restaurant in a small town like Kensett.
“We tried to do plate lunches, but they weren’t very popular,” said White. “People coming from their jobs in Searcy only get an hour for lunch and if you get stuck waiting for the train to pass, you’re out of luck.”
Since moving from Kensett, 3 Rivers Catfish has added more hours and more items to their menu. Instead of only serving fish for dinner on the weekends, White and Holmes decided to add breakfast and lunch to the menu and to begin opening their doors Tuesdays through Sundays.
One thing that sets 3 Rivers apart from other restaurants serving catfish is the option of having fresh river fish or pond-raised fish.
“Some people don’t like river fish because of the strong ‘fishy’ flavor, so we try to cater to those that prefer pond-raised,” said White.
While their menu still includes both kinds of fish, they’ve added breakfast favorites like biscuits and gravy, omelets, and French toast. Their lunch menu has expanded from only fish to include burgers, salads, soups, and sandwiches.
The cafe may look like a house from the outside, but throughout the years, it has been converted into a functional location for many types of businesses. Most recently, it was home to Posing in Vintage, an antique and consignment shop. Before that, it was set up to be a restaurant for The Old English Tea House and then The White House Cafe.
