SEARCY, Ark. – Searcy parents now have another great option for dressing their little ones. Children’s boutique ‘Chasing Poppies’, is hoping to not only offer more options and brands, but also simultaneously transform the way local parents shop for their tots.
Local couple Eric and Brooke Collins say they had a few different influences in their decision to open ‘Chasing Poppies’ in downtown Searcy. One was the two daughters they are now raising here in the town that both Eric and Brooke themselves grew up in. The name ‘Chasing Poppies’ even comes from their 7-month-old daughter Chandler’s birth flower, the poppy.
Eric says the other influence was other couples in Searcy raising young children and looking for different options.
“We’ve got a lot of friends, they’ve all got smaller children,” said Eric. “They all kind of had the same requests…that they wanted more options, so we decided to follow through.”
The Collins offer a number of clothing lines not found anywhere else in town. Among those brands are Kyte Baby, Loved Baby, Appaman, Owlet, and Freshly Picked. Sizes on all clothing ranges from newborn through size 6, with special orders available on larger sizes.
They also offer a unique line called Tea Company, which supports the Global Fund for Children, which funds organizations that help underprivileged children living in impoverished countries.
“They actually go out globally into different areas that we might not ever see on a daily basis…they try to incorporate some of those looks in with their designs,” said Eric. “Not every child’s clothing company is going to do something like that that’s going to help benefit children of the world.”
Up and coming local businesses like ‘Chasing Poppies’ have already seen incredible support from the community, thanks to the recent Small Business Revolution, which helped shine a light on many Searcy businesses.
“The biggest impact is just the community outreach,” Eric explained. “It really kind of opened the door for everybody to support the small people coming.”
‘Chasing Poppies’ will officially cut the ribbon on their downtown location on Friday, April 26th at 2 pm. They are open now at their location at 118 Race Ave. in downtown Searcy, across the street from the courthouse. For more information, call (501) 278-0570 or follow their Facebook page.
