SEARCY, Ark – While most people are filling up their stomachs and watching football on Thanksgiving, Beyond Boundaries is encouraging Searcy holiday goers to get out and exercise before the big meal. For the third year, BBO is hosting the “Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run & Walk” on Thanksgiving morning. Trotters are encouraged to come dressed in their best Thanksgiving costume for an opportunity to win a prize for the best costume.
The Turkey Trot isn’t just unique because of its Thanksgiving event date or costume contest; it also has a unique entry fee! Instead of the regular set cash registration fee, trotters should bring a non-perishable food item or cash donation to The Maple House. The Maple House is a non-profit organization that provides after school tutoring, gardening, worship time and activities promoting community unification.
Angela Sivia, manager of Beyond Boundaries Outfitters, said that this partnership with The Maple House is a product of a desire to, “help bring awareness so others can share their talents and help our community.”
“We would love for others to learn more about The Maple House, the good works they do, and how others can give back to it,” said Sivia.
Past Turkey Trots have brought a crowd of 125-150 participants, which is a promising turnout for stocking The Maple House’s shelves for the upcoming holidays.
The race begins at 8 a.m. on Thursday, November 28th in front of Beyond Boundaries Outfitters at 115 E. Center St. You can register online early or the morning of the race. For more information, including if you are interested in volunteering, contact Angela Sivia at 501-230-9014).
